Get ready to be AMAZED!!!!

Here are some simple magic tricks put to Gospel Principles.  Have fun presenting them to the kids along with singing some songs!

Bots

Make several 'bots' from recycled soup, chicken, and tuna cans.  Look in your garage for assorted nuts and bolts and other odds and ends to create your bot.  Attach with hot glue and walah!!!


In an old TV show called 'Lost in Space' a robot was the constant companion of a little boy.  The robot would call out, "Danger, danger" whenever the boy would need help with a decision that might lead him into "Danger".

Today the Holy Ghost is our "so-called Robot" - our constant companion to warn us of danger.

Let's see what songs our 'Robots' have picked for us to protect us from Danger.

(Have songs inside the cans of the Robots that can lead us from Danger.  For example:  As a Child of God, Choose the Right, Choose the Right Way, I Will Be Valiant, Dare to Do Right, Hum Your Favorite Hymn, I Will Follow God's Plan, Keep the Commandments, etc.)

"Shoes" the Right

"Shoes" the Right and Follow Jesus' Example!!!

This is a fun way to help us remember to be like Jesus :)
You will need cleats, wading boots, slippers, dance shoes, Sunday shoes, and swim fins.
Let one child pick a pair of shoes and then let them read how that pair helps us to choose the right and be like Jesus.  Then sing a song!

~Cleats - We need to dig our cleats into the ground and always stand firm against doing wrong. (Stand for the Right)
~Wading Boots - We need to be prepared.  When life is flooding us with temptations we can be wise and choose the right.  (Wise man/Foolish man)
~Slippers - We should get all comfy and cozy and spend time with the scriptures and keep learning about Jesus.  (Search, Ponder, and Pray)
~Dance Shoes - We need to be on our tip toes, looking for ways to share the Gospel.  (I will be Valiant)
~Sunday Shoes - We need to be reverent and ready to learn about Jesus.  (Reverence is Love)
~Swim Fins - We need to be ready to dive in and do service, just like Jesus did. (Give Said the Little Stream)

I am LEAD by Prophets and Apostles

I have to be honest.

I love leading wands.

There's just something whimsical about them to me.

I like to see my children's faces as a bring out a new one :)



If I don't have one for a certain holiday, then I just cut out a holiday shape from paper and tape it to the end of a skewer.  Fancy, right?

Here's a few from the collection.  Anything that is long, can be used as a leading wand!!!
umbrellas, flowers, flags, a pencil with ribbon attached, flashlight, etc.

Anyways for this singing time I will pull out my leading wands and let a child choose one.  Each leading stick will represent a song to sing and then they get to lead with it!!!

Make to sure to end with your testimony of how the prophet and apostles are called by God and LEAD us today!

Sweet Valentines

Here are some quick Pick-and-Choose Valentines Music Ideas:

Pick songs out of:  Empty candy boxes or conversation heart party favors.

Have the letters K I S S E S scattered across the room.  Let the children find them one at a time and sing a song for each letter.  See if they can spell the word.

Here's an idea that's not quite as easy but I might attempt it this week:
Get a big piece of white butcher paper and draw a big heart on it (just the outline of a heart).  Hang the paper on the chalkboard.  As the children sing a song, pick 2 or 3 kids to come up and draw a valentine's picture inside the heart (or just color in it).  At the end of Singing time, write We Love Our Bishop!!! and give it to your Bishop to hang in his office.

Animal Crackers

Here's 2 easy pick and choose ideas that go with Noah's Ark. 
Set some animal cracker packets on the table and let your children pick one and sing a song.  Pass out crackers at the end for a handout!
Or you can get some balloons with animal faces on them and let your children pop them.  Make sure to put the song inside them!  (we found these balloons at Zurcher's, but you could always just draw them on with a permanent marker).

Noah's Ark

Have the children pick an animal (2) off the board and place them in the ark.  Each animal represents a song to sing and a way to sing.  Here are some ideas for these animals and some others:

Monkey:  Sway arms above head
Elephant:  Sway arm like a trunk in front of your nose
Pig: Scrunch nose up
Frog:  Hop
Alligator: Arms straight out and put palms together like a alligator chomp
Owl:  Make glasses around eyes with your hands
Penguin:  Waddle
Zebra:  Gallop

Snow Ice Cream

I sing, you sing!  We all sing for Snow Ice cream!!!

We found these at the store-they are actually cotton candy shhhhh :)  The kids thought it was snow!  blahh hahaha! 
So you can stack these up or aline them on the table.  Choose a reverent child to come and choose a Snow Ice cream.  On the top is a song or a number that represents a song!!! 
At the end, we passed out handouts that were the reciepe to make ice cream out of snow.  They loved it!!!

Build a Snowman

This is an easy winter singing time to do with your kids!  Just put different parts to build a snowman on the board.  Let a child choose one and then assemble it.  For each piece, sing a song!  You can have different noses, buttons, arms, mittens, hats, or scarves!!!

I can choose the Right here on EARTH

January week 4:  Jesus Christ created the EARTH as a place where I can learn to choose the right.

Choose a reverent child to come help spin the globe.  I say reverent because sometimes my kids are rowdy... well, more than sometimes.  I pick up my choosing sticks can (with all their names in it) and then I choose a name.  I look at the name and then say something like, "Hmmmm.. let me see if this person is being reverent".  I look around the room and wait for it to be silent.  I may even walk around the room and "look".  That usually gets everyone's attention and they settle down.
Anyways back to business.  So when the child comes up I will spin the globe and they have to stop it with their finger.  If it doesn't land exactly on a song, pick the closest song.  After you sing it, take the song off the globe.  When the next child comes up and if they don't land exactly on a song, pick the song to the right of their finger.  I'll warn you now, I haven't done this activity before so I hope it turns out!!!
While they are singing, I will let them pass around an inflatable globe.  When the song is over, the child with the globe has to say something to help them choose the right, or an example of choosing the right.

Punch out the OLD and Sing in the NEW

This idea was posted earlier this year here and we thought it would be fun for bringing in the New Year!  You can put any songs you want to sing!!!  Happy New Year!!!

Leafy Ways to Sing

Leafy Ways to Sing!!!
 
 Materials you will need:  A shoe organizer, different objects to fill the shoe pockets, and paper leaves

We are posting this idea this week because it actually takes 2 Sunday's... in case you were wondering why it's not about Thanksgiving :)  So if you are a plan-ahead person you could use this idea for next week!
The first Sunday, pass out to each child a paper leaf.  Each child writes their favorite song on the leaf and hands it back to you.
At home, put the leaves in the pockets along with an object.  (If you have more children than there are pockets, put more than one leaf in a pocket and let them choose which song to sing).  Then on Sunday let a child come and pick a pocket.  Sing that song and do the action!!!

Here are the different things we put in the pockets and the corresponding actions to do while you sing:
Flashlight-Turn the lights off
Slinky-Stretch the slinky to sing loud or soft
Tissues-Plug your nose
Boot-March
Pointer-Child leads music
Picture of Friends-Turn and sing to a friend
Cap-Sing without the piano
Turtle-Sing slow
Racecar-Sing Fast
Ball-2 children toss the ball back and forth and every time they drop it, start the song over!
Bumble Bee-Hum
Whistle-whistle (...how original :))
Teeth-Sing with a smile or teeth clenched
Glue stick-pretend to glue a part of your body and stick it. ex: glue hand to head or your elbows together!
Microphone-Sing with 2 friends
Sun glasess-Sing with eyes closed
Egg Shakers-Sing staccato
Skunk-Plug nose
Flamingo-Stand on one foot


Get creative!!! All these things were found around the house!!!  and have fun!!!

Pick your Potion

{Pick your Potion}

I will set up these potions on the table and each will have a song attached to it. 

Easy.

I like easy :)



I will also have a helper who gets to wear a witches hat.  If the children are singing too soft the "witch" will stand up tall.  But if the children are singing their best the "witch" will melt to the ground.  I hope it's fun!!!

The POSITIVELY RIDICULOUS Hat review

The POSITIVELY RIDICULOUS Hat Review... with a twist!!!

As you know, it's not all about how loud the children sing during the program.  Yes, they have to be heard, but to help feel the spirit and get the message of the song across, we are going to work on some other areas.  So here's my idea:

I will choose a song that we need to review.  We will sing that song, and as they are singing, I will watch/judge each class on a category (I'll tell you the categories in a sec).  The best class gets to come pick a positively ridiculous hat for their teacher to wear for the next song.  Repeat.

So here's the songs we will be reviewing and the categories are next to them:
*I Will Follow God's Plan For Me - Which class is sitting up straight and folding arms
*I Love to See the Temple-Which class is smiling the most
*The Lord Gave Me a Temple-Which class is loudest (we need the most work on this song)
*Scripture Power-Which class is singing the most enthusiastically
*If I Listen With My Heart - Which class know the song with out the visual
*Praise to the Man - Which class is overall best in all categories

Like I said, I will be the "judge", but you can pick someone else to do it instead if you want.  If I think all classes did equally great, I will have my Primary President wear the hat!!!




 

Stay Ship Shape!

Ahoy! Matey!!! 
This post is obviously my mom's (she's usually the more elaborate singing lady).  This is to go along with this Sunday's sharing time -week 4 Aug- and to help practice the program songs!

What you need (either actual objects or paper print outs):
Pirate hat, Mop, Gold coins, Steering wheel, Scope/spy glass, sword, Hook, Crocodile, eye patch, message in bottle, pirate flag, parrot, treasure map, newspaper hat, broom, and soap.
Weew!  Don't worry you can customize the objects to what works for you.  So don't fill you have to have ALL these things!
So here's a pic of her objects:

 Each object has a saying with it and represents a song or a short fun activity to do.
Jolly Roger Hat:
Saying:  Cuss words should never cross your mind.
Sing:  Hum your favorite Hymn

The Mop:
Saying:  If you can't say anything nice, then don't say anything at all.
Short Game=Swab the deck:  2 kids, 2 brooms, 2 bars of soap.
Children have to sweep soap over line of tape down isle of Primary room

Gold Coins:
Saying:  Alma 39:14 Seek not after riches, nor the vain thing of the world, for behold you cannot carry them with you.
Sing:  Tell Me the Stories of Jesus

Pirate Ship Steering Wheel:
Saying:  When we feast upon the words of Christ contained in the Book of Mormon, they STEER us away from the things that matter least to the things that matter most.
Sing:  Scripture Power

Scope/Spy Glass:
Saying:  Keep the Savior in your SIGHT
Sing:  I love to see the Temple

Sword:
Saying:  Be careful what you say, it may cut like a SWORD
Sing:  Praise to the Man (Sing praises to people instead of cutting them down)

Hook:
Saying:  Don't get hooked on pornography
Sing:  If I Listen With my Heart
use crocodile's mouth the meter the volume of singing (Captain James Hook lost his hand to the croc)

Eye Patch:
Saying:  D&C 82:19 ...and doing all things with an eye single to the glory of God
Sing:  The Lord Gave me a Temple

Parrot:
Saying:  No FOWL language!!!
Sing while holding tongue:  Stand for the Right (sometimes your told to hold your tongue b/c it's in a slippery place)

Treasure Map:
Saying:  Alma 37:45 ...the words of Christ, if we follow their course, will carry us.. into a far better land of promise
Sing:  I will Follow God's Plan for Me

Message in bottle:
Saying:  Your words become your thought, your thoughts become your actions, your actions become your character and your character becomes your destiny.  It all starts with your words.
Short action:  Have them follow the actions to -see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil.

Flag:
Sing to tune of If you're happy and you know it...
If you're a pirate and you know it
Row your boat- row, row
Swab the deck- swish, swish
Walk the plank-stomp, stomp
Shout Ahoy! -ahoy with arm movement
If you're a pirate and you know it, then you'll hear the sea winds blowing, etc...

These hats are for the helpers to wear as they pick out an object. And the sticks are for the song Heroes of the Scriptures:  Walk the Blankity Blank Plank.  The stick (Plank) will have words to song and the kids will have to fill in the blank.


And of course a handout!!!  It's a small compass with a strip of paper that says, "North, South, East, or West, Following the SAVIOR is the best"!!!
