Thanksgiving Primary Singing Time Ideas

You're looking for Thanksgiving Primary Singing Time Ideas, right???

Good, you're in the right spot!

We've compiled some of our favorite Thanksgiving themed Singing Time Ideas all in one place!

So here they are!

1-Thankful Turkey Feathers.

Start by having the turkey (body only) on the chalkboard and feathers on the table or podium.  Call up a reverent child to come pick out a feather and put it on the turkey (tape or sticky tack).  That same child tells something they're thankful for (or their favorite thing to eat at Thanksgiving dinner), add the feather, and sing a song. Click HERE for the original post.

2-"Search" Ponder and DIG!

Can you find the song in the dried corn??????

Call up a reverent child to get 15 seconds to try to find a song in the corn, maybe 20 for Junior.

Sing that song once it's found!

Be sure to put down a sheet or small tarp below the bucket so that it can be an easy cleanup in case some spill out!

3-Sing Children All over the World!

6-Pumpkin Pie Turn.

Call up a reverent child and have them turn the pie piece to reveal the next song!  Click HERE for instructions!

7-Armoured Turkey.

This singing time is to help Turkey arm up to protect himself and to help the children review the Armor of God that THEY can put on to protect their Spirits.  Click HERE for more details and where to get the graphics.

8-Shake things up!

Fill up a clear container with dried corn and call up some reverent helpers to come shake the beat to the next song or song your working on this month!!!!  Click HERE for the original post.

9-Thanksgiving Headband.

Call up a child to wear the headband, then stick the word/paper on it so they can't see it.  Have the Primary children sing the song WITHOUT singing THAT word.  See if the child wearing the headband can guess what the missing word was.  If not, sing it again doing the same thing OR have the children sing that word LOUD and obvious :)  Click HERE for the original post.

10-Brother Turkey CAN Sing!

It's always fun to have a special visitor to Primary!  Check out this Turkey puppet idea HERE on our site!

11-Candy Bar Singing Time!

12-Whip Cream Toss.

Every Pumpkin Pie needs a dab of whipped cream on top, right???

Tape the Pie on the chalkboard and let the child throw the "whipped cream" (cotton ball) onto the pie.  Call up a child who is singing their best and being reverent to come up to the front and toss!  Click HERE for more instructions.

13-Popcorn Turkey.

Use the Popcorn bags as shakers for children to shake the beat in the front of the Primary room.  Let them take them home and pop them in the microwave and watch turkey's belly get bigger and bigger!!!  Original post HERE.

Thanksgiving Headband

Just simple Thanksgiving Primary Singing Time idea for today!  Pick out a common word in a song and write it on a small piece of paper.

Call up a child to wear the headband, then stick the word/paper on it so they can't see it.  Have the Primary children sing the song WITHOUT singing THAT word.  See if the child wearing the headband can guess what the missing word was.  If not, sing it again doing the same thing OR have the children sing that word LOUD and obvious :)

Whip Cream Toss

"Hmmmmm.... Our Primary Pumpkin Pie is missing something......"

some Whipped Cream!!!

Every Pumpkin Pie needs a dab of whipped cream on top, right???

Tape the Pie on the chalkboard, dip a cotton ball in a good amount a vaseline and let the child throw the "whipped cream" (cotton ball) onto the pie.  Call up a child who is singing their best and being reverent to come up to the front and toss!

Which ever song it lands on is the next song to sing!!!

(You might want to have them stand close to it so they don't miss!  But if they do, it's also a good idea to put something behind the pie)

Also, you only need to put some Vaseline on one side of the ball - not over of it.

Tell them you'll be watching them during the song to see who is singing their best and you'll be amazed at how well they do!  You can either watch and just pick a child, or pull from choosing sticks.

We thought this would be a fun Thanksgiving Primary Singing Time for November!  This is our last one for this year!!!!

Starting soon will be some posts for Christmas and other topics!!!

The kids love the challenge and sometimes the most simple Singing Time turn out the best and most fun!

Brother Turkey can Sing....

It's always fun to have special visitors to Primary!!!!  Today we have Brother Turkey visiting us! He's kinda cute, right?

There are a few ways to use Brother Turkey during Singing Time:

First, you could tell the children that Brother Turkey is  little shy with singing and he will only start singing if the children are singing their best.  This helps him feel more comfortable.  "Brother Turkey CAN sing.... he's just a little shy"...

This is a great way to meter their singing and get the children singing their best!

Second, you could direct/lead the song with him OR have a child come and lead with him.

Third, you could make him Wobble and Gobble as the children sing along - but went he stops, the children stop singing (freeze).  And then pick up where you left off.  Repeat this along the song.  Make sure to give your pianist a heads up on this and that they can see you!

Do you have any more ideas you on how Brother Turkey could be used during Singing Time???  We'd love to hear!

Shake things up this Thanksgiving

"Shake" things up this Thanksgiving during your Primary Singing Time!!!!

Fill up a clear container with dried corn and call up some reverent helpers to come shake the beat to the next song or song your working on this month!!!!

I usually have 3-5 shakers and and then call up that many children to help at a time.  After the song is sung, I have them pick other kids to hand them to and let them shake the beat.  Repeat until all children have had a turn!

Just a quick and simple Thanksgiving idea today!

Gobble Gobble Turkey

There are a couple different ways you could use this activity for your Primary Singing Time.

First, you could sing the songs you're working on and the children who are singing nicely and their best, get a piece of food (cotton ball or pom pom) to feed into the turkey's belly.  (walk around and "watch" as they are singing and pass them out).

Second, After the children have sung a song, pick 2-3 children who were singing their best and have them come say something they're thankful for and add a piece of food to his belly.

Make sure to make Gobble noises as he eats!!!!  Gobble Gobble!!!!!

(turkey's belly is made from a recycled soda litter with the top of the bottle cut off)

**For Come Follow Me 2019 - You could incorporate KINDNESS by:  After you hand the child a pompom for singing great, have them say something nice about someone in the Primary room, something nice they've done that day, or a way someone showed kindness to THEM that day or the past week.  Then they can add their food to the Gobble Gobble Turkey.

This is great to help them recognize what kindness is and that it feels good when you are kind and when kindness is shown to you!

Children All Over the World

Children All Over the World

How fun are these?!?!?!?!?!?  This is a great song to sing in November when we focus on THANKS giving :)

Children love having visuals to help remember the words to a song and to connect with it, and this song is perfect for a visual!

To introduce this song, you could stand at the microphone and say "wir danken dir".  The children might looked confused.  "Wir danken dir" is a German word.  Does anyone know what it means?

It means, THANK YOU!  Do you think Heavenly Father can understand all languages of children as they pray?  Yes!  Let's sing a song about saying thank you to Heavenly Father from all over the world!

Show each poster and tell which country they represent and how to pronounce the way they say, "thank you".  Have them repeat after you.

“Gracias.” (grah-see-ahs) SPANISH
“Malo.” (mah-loh) TONGAN
“Wir danken dir.” (veer don-ken deer)  GERMAN
“tak,” (tahk) DANISH
“merci,” (mare-see)  FRENCH
“Kansha shimasu,” (kahn-shah shee-mah-sue) JAPANESE

You may want to put the pronunciation on the back of the poster as a reminder for you!  (it's not cheating!)

Heavenly Father LOVES all His children and LOVES to hear from them everyday in their prayers!  Bear testimony of His love for each of the Primary children and the importance of prayer!

So,
"Gracias.”
“Malo.”
“Wir danken dir.”
“tak,”
“merci,”
“Kansha shimasu”
OR
"Thank you" for visiting iheartprimarymusic today!

Pumpkin Pie Turn

It's tradition!  You just gotta have PUMPKIN PIE at Thanksgiving!!!!!  So why not use it for a Singing Time in November?? :)

To make this Pumpkin Pie Turn, you'll need two white poster boards, cut in identical circle sizes.  Color one to look like a pumpkin pie - leave the other one white, divide slices, and song title on each piece.  Put a brad in the middle so that you can rotate the top from the bottom without them sliding apart.

Call up a reverent child and have them turn the pie to reveal the next song!

The pie slices could also be ways to sing a song (stand on one foot, eyes closed, hum, etc. OR put a song that you're working on written on 2 or 3 slices - so that it can be repeated).

To see a quick video on how it turns, check on our Instagram page!

mmmmmm.. now I'm hungry for PIE!!!!!!

Thankful Turkey Feathers

This Singing Time idea is an easy one for Thanksgiving!

All you need is a paper turkey and some feathers!

You could also start with the feathers ON the tukey and pluck them off.

(Our paper turkey pictured was drawn on brown paper, colored with chalk, outlined with black marker, and the body is cut out of cardboard, feathers are cut from scrapbook paper).

This is a great way for the children to start thinking about things to be grateful for this Thanksgiving season!!!

"Search", Ponder, and DIG!

Can you find the song in the dried corn??????

We thought this would make a fun Singing Time for Primary during the Thanksgiving season :)

Call up a reverent child to get 15 seconds to try to find a song in the corn, maybe 20 for Junior.

Sing that song once it's found!

Be sure to put down a sheet or small tarp below the bucket so that it can be an easy cleanup in case some spill out!

(2019 CFM-Lesson)

Hebrew 3:7 - 4:11  "In order to receive God's blessings, I must "harden not" my heart".

Dried Corn is HARD!!!!!  I would much rather it be soft, cooked corn.

Just as hard/dry corn is hard to eat, hard HEARTS are hard for God to speak us and for us to use faith.  We must have soft hearts to hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ, live the Gospel, obey God's commandments, hear the Spirit's whisperings and receive blessing.

You could show the difference between dry corn and soft, squish them a little to show how they are different.  Ask which one they would like to crunch in their mouth.  (the soft one!)

God speaks to soft hearts (have them touch where their heart is) and pours out blessings to them.

Share this quick message before continuing on to Digging in the corn and Singing!  At the end of Singing Time, bear your testimony of having a soft heart :)
